Augmentation to the face with the use of dermal fillers is one of the most widely known cosmetic procedures, closely behind Botox injections.  Filler can be used almost all over the face to help enhance features, provide structure and support where our normal facial structures are lacking, or to add volume to a place where there otherwise was none, like the lips.

Majority of the filler used is made out of Hyalauronic Acid (HA), a naturally occurring sugar found in our own bodies that actually adds hydration to areas of the body like the skin and joints.  When we are younger, this is found more abundantly and declines as we age, but is a fantastic substance for adding volume or hydration because of the natural hydrating properties of it.  There are many different types made by many different companies and Refine injectors utilize almost all of them!  There is no right or wrong filler, only the right one for the job, patient, and desired outcome.  You and your provider will decide which filler will be used for your aesthetic outcome.

Some of the most common areas to receive HA filler injections are:

  • Lips

  • Cheeks

  • Chin

  • Undereye

  • Jawline

  • Superficial Skin (for skin boosting)

  • And others

Commonly asked Questions about Filler:

1. Does it hurt?

While filler is injected with a needle, we use multiple anesthetic modalities to ensure that the experience is actually very tolerable.  Topical Anesthetic Cream, Injectable Lidocaine, and other techniques are used to create a less painful experience.

2. How long does it last?

The Filler results you have will be a combination of where it was placed, how much was used, and what type was used. Most often we say 6-12 months but depending on the variables mentioned, could last much longer, or could require more before the 6 month mark.

3.  How much do I need?

This also depends greatly from one situation to the next and will be something to discuss with your injector.  At Refine, we pride ourselves on being conservative injectors because addition is always easier than subtraction when it comes to injectables!  There is no need to rush the process and is almost always recommended unless otherwise indicated.  Your injector may suggest a slow approach where you build things slowly over time.  This allows for more perfected outcomes, less risk of adverse events, and a more natural transition into that look you desire.

For more questions and concerns, feel free to make a complimentary consultation with one of our injectors.  Consults are always complimentary at Refine because we believe there should be no pressure or cost to be an informed patient making medical decisions about your aesthetic journey to feeling like the best version of yourself.  You deserve this, and it's our mission to make it an amazing experience.
